What We Do as a Church and Our Faith

In our Sunday services we gather to worship God as revealed through the person and life of Jesus Christ and through the Bible. We look to the Bible as a trustworthy source for teaching about God and how to live (2 Timothy 3:16). We believe in a God with whom we can develop a loving personal relationship through faith in Jesus.

Once a month our morning service includes Communion. Bread and wine are offered to all the congregation and we remember with gratitude that Jesus was God in human form and that when He died He suffered for our sin/wrongdoing. Our sin separates us from God and by His grace, through Jesus we can be forgiven, reconciled and know God's presence and guidance in our lives (Romans 3:23,24). We also rejoice that Jesus rose from the dead to eternal life, confirming the promise that his followers, too, will one day rise to eternal life (John 3:16). We have agreed to use gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic wine.

We encourage people to make a personal commitment to follow Jesus and to publicly declare that through baptism. Set into the dais is a small pool where people can be immersed in water to represent this commitment and a new start (Romans 6:4).

We meet in small groups to discuss the Bible in order to learn more about God and the Christian life because the Bible teaches that God’s Spirit (the Holy Spirit) enables us to understand God’s character and will (John 14:26). We enjoy our friendships and share our experiences so we can celebrate together, support one another, and pray together (Galatians 6:2).

We have confidence that we can all ask and receive God’s guidance as we meet every two months to make decisions together about the church. We elect our leaders, who are accountable to the church meeting.

Dunchurch Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. The Declaration of Principle is the historic statement that forms the basis of understanding for all who belong to the Baptist Union and says:

1. That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each Church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.

2. That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who 'died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried, and rose again the third day'.

3. That it is the duty of every disciple to bear personal witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
